The National Parks Service tasked the USGS Pacific Science Center with mapping and monitoring coral reefs on the main Hawaiian Islands and on the island of Guam. Interactive digital media libraries produced by our team combine geographic information systems (remote sensing, sediment transport studies, and collection of tide, wave, and current data from remote stations), digital video and GPS data.
These efforts providing the basis for future monitoring and understanding, and will help to preserve and protect the biodiversity, health, and socioeconomic value of each remarkable habitat.
